Phuket to Langkawi flights set for takeoff . . .

Phuket Flights Boost from Denmark, Langkawi

Tuesday, December 22, 2009
A DANISH charter flight landed at the weekend on Phuket, heralding a twice-weekly charter service from Copenhagen that is expected to deliver 7000 tourists this high season.

If the new Happy Air service from Phuket to Langkawi in Malaysia does that kind of number, management will be pleased. Phuketwan tested the island to island route on its launch, and found it a bit of a thrill.

Flying in a small turbo prop is far more exciting than the bigger aircraft, and apparently better for the environment. The 34-seat SAAB 340A takes just 40 minutes to reach Langkawi.

It's yet another visa run option for expat residents, and a great way for yachties to travel between the region's two prime mooring destinations.

The fare? 4000 baht one-way. You can be down and back the same day, and Langkawi is duty-free. Happy Air also does a quick hop from Phuket to Haad Yai for 2500 baht one-way.

Phanga province Vice Governor, Woraproj Rotthasima, and Phuket Airport General Manager, Prathuang Somkhom, led the delegation from Phuket on the inauguration flight.

The Phuket-Langkawi-Phuket service runs Tuesday,s Thursdays and Saturdays, with Phuket-Haad Yai operating Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Phuketwan was a happy guest of Happy Air on the inaugural flight.
