Stephan Henricus Maria Buczynski, dead with a head wound off Patong

Four Phuket Expats Found Dead in Bad Day for Patong

Sunday, January 13, 2013
UPDATE

THE Dutch news site omroepbrabant.nl and the Bangkok Post have named the dead man from the Netherlands as Stephan Henricus Maria Buczynski.

Original Report

PHUKET: Four Phuket expats have been found dead in a bad day for expats in Patong, police confirmed this evening.

The day began with reports of the finding of the body of a 26-year-old Dutchman in the sea off Patong beach.

He has a four-centimetre wound to the back of his head - possibly from a propeller blade.

Robbery has been dismissed as a motive because he was carrying a large sum of money in a waterproof pouch around his neck.

The second expat death of the day, Patong police said, was an Italian man whose body was found dead in a room at the Royal Paradise Hotel, off Rat-U-Tit 200 Pi Road.

Police said they had been told he was suffering from a chronic illness.

The third death came with a heart attack. It struck down the Danish owner of a guesthouse in Nanai Road.

The body of an Austrian man was found in Patong Condo apartments. He had been dead for several days, according to police.

Police couldn't remember a day when they had had so many calls to deal with deceased foreigners. All four bodies were taken to Patong Hospital.

Phuketwan, Thank you for reporting, although sad facts, being a mainly foreign readers media it is good for us readers that we are aware of such facts and make our own conclusions.

This is unbelievable. Phuket and in particular Patong is becoming the murder, suicide, corruption and mafia capital of Thailand. As one who first came to Patong in 1992 when it was a peaceful, innocent, friendly, clean and inexpensive place, it deeply saddens me to see what this island has become. RIP Phuket.

It seems Phuket has become a reasl 'stinking POO" of a place.....sex drugs anything goes....attracts the wrong type of person......corruption is rife in Thai police.....everywhere......start to cleasn up your so called police-force, and turn the country around!!!

It is illogical to go off on a tangent labeling Phuket as the murder, suicide corruption capital of Thailand because 4 deaths of foreigners are reported. With the exception of the Dutch national, it seems that 3 of the deaths are of health related issues. How is Phuket responsible if someone has heart disease? Now if one wanted to lambaste the marine department officials for not policing the speedboats, fine, that is a legitimate concern. However, the reality is that Phuket attracts many foreigners that are in ill health or have advanced age. It is normal that such people die. It is not Phuket's fault if people have chronic health conditions, make poor lifestyle choices, ride a motorcycle without wearing a helmet, swim in dangerous areas, suffer from mental illness or drink too much alcohol.

Why would the Dutch guy be swimming "with a large sum of money" around his neck?

One cannot help but compare Patong to Soddom and Gremorah in biblical times. Beware the Water Dragon has woken up.

It seems to me that some people leave their common sense on the carousel when they are picking up their luggage. Heavy drinking, drugs and strenuous activity are the biggest 'killers' for tourist on Phuket. I witnessed the lifeguards make eight saves in the red flag area and after every save people just kept going out. The lifeguards blew their whistles but nobody listened until he said "F@4k you all" and walked away did people get the message.

I have to agree with the 'quality' of tourists coming here now. I'm not of the 'ban the backpacker' brigade, but Rawai/Nai Harn has recently been teeming with tattooed up drunken louts, one of which I saw leaning full way out of a local songtaew driving along Sai Yuan. I ran as fast as I could to enjoy the spectacle of a cement truck coming the other way. No such luck.
