The bloodied couple after today's stabbing at their Patong apartment

Phuket Expat Stabbed, Tuk-Tuked to Patong Hospital in Rage of Jealousy

Thursday, June 27, 2013
PHUKET: A Phuket expat who hit his Thai wife in a fit of jealousy was rushed to Patong Hospital in a tuk-tuk after she stabbed him in a revenge attack early today.

Belgian Ferdinand Salpdew, 62, dripped a trail of blood through their Patong apartment block as his distraught lover, upset at what she'd done, escorted him for treatment.

Bruised and angry, Yossapa Janthep, 36, wielded a sharpened steel rod and struck Mr Salpdew five times in the chest, once in the throat and once in a leg.

When the pair arrived at Patong Hospital, Yossapa was still grasping the weapon. Mr Salpdew remains in a serious condition today at Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket City after being transferred from Patong.

A sordid story of jealousy and rage emerged as police and paramedics asked what had happened.

They were told that Mr Salpdew and Yossapa had been together for six years but he'd only just returned to Thailand after a time away.

To celebrate they had dinner at a hotel then went out to enjoy the bars of Soi Bangla. Mr Salpdew contacted a Belgian friend and when they met up, Yossapa began paying a lot of attention to the younger, good-looking man.

After a time, Mr Salpdew grew so jealous that he took Yossapa back to their apartment where he beat her for looking at the other man.

In anger and pain, police said, and quite drunk, Yossapa lashed out at Mr Salpdew with the weapon.

It's not clear at this stage whether Mr Salpdew wishes to press charges.

If stabbing someone dont say I love you then nothing does. Too much booze is never a good thing.

So if Mr Saipdew dies he cannot press charges and she walks ? Don't get it, regardless of whether the man press charges Thai Justice should press charges for this kind of bodily harm/attempt on murder or whatever the definition turn out to be...can't have people like that walk around freely in society..nobody can tell when she will do a similar thing again.
The story does not reveal whether she was put behind bars or still walks free ... the only thing I am 100% sure of is that if a farang should ever stab his bargirl in the same way then he would be straight behind bars regardless of whether the girl should press charges or not.

Editor Comment:

You seem to be conveniently forgetting, Sailor, that when expats try to kill other expats, a good behavior bond is standard. To imply that Thai law discriminates is plainly wrong.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised at her behavior or Thai Justice. We all know the temper and level of violence some people are capable of. And if two farangs can get out of jail after shooting two people on a busy street, then anything is possible. Good warning to all not to get drunk and beat the girls up.

I guess that if Mr Saipdew dies is another matter than being in an hospital for treatment but anyway I agree with Sailor about double standard in justice if the hitter is a farang.

I have to say i'm not surprised at this incident if anything i'm surprised it doesn't happen more often...
Many times i have seen insecure western guys giving extreme verbal abuse to thai partners in public for reasons similar to this...I have often worried what they may be doing to them in private...

Whilst i understand that some thai women can be very trying at times, if your going to resort to physically abusing a woman to make yourself feel more of a man you should expect that sooner or later they are going to find a way to make you pay for it...

They are a lovely couple really, perfectly suited, shame to hear they are not getting along so well after a drink together.
