AN IRISH expat resident was involved in a fatal collision in the southern Phuket region of Chalong early this morning, close to a popular pub.
The man's passport has been taken by police, but it is not expected that a charge will be laid, Colonel Thianchai Dongsuwan told Phuketwan.
Police named the Irish expat as John Gregory White, 43, of Rawai. The collision took place in Patak Road, close to The Green Man, about 1.10am.
Colonel Thianchai said that Mr White was driving his Toyota Fortuner down the hill from Karon towards Chalong Circle when a motorcycle being ridden by Thanabat Yukhunthara, 39, did a u-turn in front of him. The vehicles collided and Khun Thanabat was killed instantly.
Ireland's honorary consul for Phuket, Helene Fallon-Wood, has been informed of the incident.
Latest figures released for march show there were 11 fatalities on Phuket's roads in March, a lower tally than usual. But there were also 1282 people injured.
Public Health figures also show there were three deaths from drownings in waters on or around Phuket, with 11 people listed as ''injured.''
