Frenchman Fabrice Derozie, 48, at Phuket's Chalong police station

Phuket Expat Accused of Selling Cocaine

Monday, August 9, 2010
A FRENCH EXPAT was due to appear in Phuket Provincial Court today on charges of possessing cocaine and marijuana.

Police allege that Fabrice Derozie, 48, used a Thai massage shop in Viset Road in the Rawai-Chalong area as a front for selling illegal drugs.

Mr Derozie was allegedly trapped in a police ''sting'' when a plain-clothes officer sought to buy cocaine vaued at 20,000 baht.

He was arrested in his room at Ira Mansion in Chalong and a search of the massage shop turned up a combined total of 26 grams of cocaine, one pack of marijuana and 104,000 baht in cash.

The arrest took place on Friday. It is understood that Mr Derozie's Thai wife left him earlier this year, with their five-year-old child.

ONE packet of marijuana, and 26 "sneeze and they're gone" small grams of cocaine? This doesn't sound like the stock of a seller.

How do the police determine that the 104,000 baht are related to drug dealing, not the normal business of the masseuse?

Police accuse Mr Derozie of selling. They don't necessarily say he was a big dealer. We don't know the details of the massage business, or the history of the cash.

24 grams is nearly an ounce of coke. Enough to cover a dinner plate.

Only a fine dusting over a dinner plate. By the look of him in the photo I doubt 24g's would be lasting him long...

We don't share your presumption of guilt. Best not to judge people on the basis of appearance. Given your knowledge of the spreading capacity of cocaine, your comment could even be misinterpreted as hypocrisy.

Yes because actually catching him in a sting is certainly unprovable, yet your piece on the woman presumed to have xxxxxxxxxx her husband was so fair and balanced.

Hypocrisy.. A very apt term..

You are using words that haven't been used by anyone in the case involving the family. All we do is report the news, without slandering people . . . which is what you have just done.

There's nothing hypocritical about accurate news reports. We are not judgmental. It's all in your head, buddy.

Any follow up on this? What happened at his court appearance?
