EXPAT resident Luca Soddu could not say that he did not know what hit him. It was a beer bottle, being swung by a large angry Thai man.
Mr Soddu, 39, an Italian who runs a restaurant in Karon, had just pulled up on his motorcycle at a 7-Eleven store in Chao Fa Road West. It was about 11.45pm on Tuesday night.
He was astride the motorcycle, with one foot on the ground on either side, when the man clobbered him with the bottle, Mr Soddu told police on Friday.
The store is near Chalong Circle.
''I've lived on Phuket for 10 years and have a Thai wife,'' he said. ''Nothing like this has happened to me before.''
Mr Soddu had four stitches in a wound to his head and paid 4700 baht for medical treatment.
He said he was not aware of having caused anyone to be annoyed at him to the point where they would attack him.
On Friday he looked at the security camera at the store but failed to spot his attacker. Mr Soddu knows what hit him. He just doesn't know why.
