PHUKET police have caught two men they say were transporting 8000 yah ba pills onto the island. The methamphetamine haul,officers say, was found in a car at Tachatchai checkpoint after a tipoff.
The white Toyota Vios was thoroughly searched about 6pm last night as the vehicle headed onto the island. Some of the pills were hidden in drinking straws, others were hidden in snack bags and health drink packs.
Police said they also found 2.85 grams of yah ice and drug paraphernalia for ingesting the drug, five mobile telephones and a small amount of cash.
The men were named as Wesarat Ninjamrat, 35, and Jab Jedklang, 26. According to police, Khun Wesarat confessed to transporting the drugs but Khun Jab denies any knowledge.
Khun Wesarat allegedly told police he was going to be paid for transporting most of the drugs to Phuket. Only 73 of the pills belonged to him.
Police valued the haul at 2.8 million baht and said the target market was probably among tourists and Thais.
