Victim Sanit Choochern carries out the reenactment with his wife's killers

Phuket Double Execution: Police Hunt Killer Queen

Saturday, June 4, 2011
PHUKET: Phuket police are today hunting a drugs queen who ordered the execution of three people over a 90,000 baht debt and gang members who aided in killing two victims, but left a survivor alive to name them.

The man who fired the killer shots was quickly arrested and confessed to police, yesterday telling a Phuketwan reporter: ''I don't know exactly why I did it. I was high on drugs.''

Sittipong Jalernrak, 27, said he fired the single-shot weapon into the heads of farmer's wife U-Rai Choochern, 50, and Somporn Kamkerd, 30, as they travelled across Phuket in the back of a pickup, the victims laying blindfolded and with hands bound.

Driver Ammarin Pantip, 26, who was also quickly arrested, heard the shots. So did Sanit Choochern, 48, who was also laying bound and blindfolded in the pickup tray, but somehow managed to escape a bullet in the head.

The three victims had driven from Krabi on Monday to meet on Phuket with drugs queen Pairin ''Jum'' Yamtim, joining her, her husband Sorle Wongsaard and six men in a drug-taking binge at a bungalow guesthouse in Phuket's central Thalang district.

Then they all travelled to an open-air sala deep in a Thalang rubber plantation, where Khun Jum soon demanded the 90,000 baht she was owed from a drug transaction.

When she was told she wasn't getting the money, she and her husband departed, first ordering the six men to kill their three Krabi visitors.

After being bound, blindfolded and beaten, the three were trucked to the isolated Phuket coast by one group of men. Khun U-Rai and Khun Somporn were executed on the way across Phuket as the pickup headed to a remote spot near the Andaman White Beach Resort.

With Khun Sanit pretending to be dead, all three bodies were hurled towards the Phuket sea, but became caught instead in jungle as they tumbled down.

The other group of men meanwhile went to a prearranged meeting spot more than 20 kilometres away where the pickup used for the killing, which belonged to the Krabi trio, was to be dumped to fool police.

Khun Sanit endured the beating, the binding and the blindfolding and was rolled down the hill as if dead, along with the bodies of his wife and their neighbor. But remarkably, he survived and alerted Phuket police.

Yesterday, taking part in the reenactment at four spots around Phuket, he heard the shooter and the driver confess.

Tachatchai police in Phuket's north are leading the hunt now for drugs queen Khun Jum, husband Sorle and gang members Mahd (no last name known yet) Nattawoot Yaming, Kittisak Wongsaard and Apirat Kumbaan.

Khun Sanit the survivor remains in protective custody.
