PHUKET: Police hope a check on a man's body found in the sea off Phuket today will help them to quickly confirm his identity.
Marine Police were alerted this morning to the body off Tapao Island, which is just 10 minutes by boat off Phuket's south-east coast.
The body appeared to have injuries to the head and chest. It's not possible to tell from the condition of the body whether the man was Asian or European. No tattoos were visible.
The only clues may come with closer examination from the black underwear, the sole item of clothing on the body, and a plastic 'I Love the King' band on the left wrist.
The man was about 155 centimetres tall. His body had been in the water for several days, Marine Police believe.
The body was towed by dinghy to shore at Cape Panwa then transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City, where doctors will perform a physical examination.

Towed!? Really!? Has our handling of forensic evidence, a dead body no less, not evolved past this, Thailand? Surreal.
