Phuket police have contacted the wife of the man whom they believe collapsed and died while walking at the water's edge at Karon beach today. He was named as Gunnar Nygard, 75, a Norwegian.

MYSTERY surrounds the cause of death of a man who was found on the sand at Phuket's Karon beach today.
First reports said the man, a Westerner, collapsed while out walking close to the edge of the sea.
A lifeguard spokesperson said lifeguards at the beach helped to administer cpr, and were joined in this process by a holidaying nurse.
The man was seen lying on the sand, opposite the South Sea Karon Resort, soon after noon. His body is now in Patong Hospital.
The man was alone and dressed only in swim trunks, so police now face the task of identifying the body. Staff who note a guest missing from a resort should contact Chalong Police Station.
Phuket's Karon beach has been the scene of several recent drownings however today's conditions were better than the past few days. Red no-swim flags were flying again today.
An autopsy should reveal the cause of death, and disclose whether the man had been swimming and taken water into his lungs.
