One man already under arrest denies wielding the knife that killed Udom Srita, 36, at the Sarapan Pleng country music club in Chalong about 3.10am.
He said the killer must have been one of his friends, nicknamed ''Na'' and ''Nu.''
Police are looking at security camera footage from the karaoke in Moo 10, Patak Road, and holding Sittichai Tongsisi.
Khun Udom was unemployed but surprisingly wealthy. The dead man's purse revealed 10,000 baht in cash, five gold amulets, a gold necklet, an expensive bracelet and a gold ring.
He and other friends, including one woman, had been celebrating a birthday party when some men at a nearby table began teasing the woman.
That led to pushing and shoving, a first swung and a bottle broken and the appearance of at least one knife.
Khun Udom died on the spot, stabbed three times in the left chest and once in the throat. Another man, Chaiyan Maikarn, was stabbed in the stomach.
Chalong Police Station Superintendent Colonel Chote Chawanwiwat was with investigators at the club early today.
Khun Udom's wife works at Chalong council and his brother is a police captain.
Many karaokes, bars and tourism businesses in Chalong area are run by the local policemen and give them to run on daily basis by family members or close friends to run them.
They close late at night well after the official closing time of 1AM as they do not have to worry about controls by police.
Those policemen spend more time to take care of their personal businesses than doing their duty as civil servants.
DSI (Department of Special Investigation) should step in to investigate.
