A 14-year-old boy takes a rap at Chalong police station cells

Phuket Boys Nabbed for Theft from Expat's Home

Thursday, November 18, 2010
AN AUSTRALIAN has had his stolen laptop and identity cards returned after Phuket police caught two under-aged thieves yesterday.

Plain-clothes police detected a pink Fino motorcycle riding around Garden Hill Villas in Chalong and realised the two young men on board were not local residents.

The two boys - A aged 15 and B aged 14 - became suspects and yesterday about noon A was arrested at HomePro in Chalong, where police say he had a job as a security guard.

As under-age suspects, neither boy can be identified - but B was only too happy to show his skills as a rap dancer in the cell at Chalong Police Station, as the photo album shows.

A told police that he and B robbed the house of Australian Adam L. Tepper, 29, on September 15, stealing the laptop, identity cards and credit cards and 18,400 baht in cash.

B kept the laptop, which police found at his rented room, and 400 baht, while A kept 18,000 baht.

Police said the pair admitted to a burglary at the home of another expat in Kata back on June 13 when they took a mobile telephone and 13,000 baht in cash.

The boys took police to the spot in a Rawai soi where they dumped Mr Tepper's cards in the bush, about 300 metres from Chalong police station.

Both boys, from Phuket, confessed and will be held at the Phuket juvenile detention centre pending a court appearance.

Another crime solved by the Thai police using good old intuition and old fashioned 'coppering' skills. A good copper can sniff out a criminal - and it looks like this has been the case here. Yes, Thai police have their problems, but there also have been a number of stories recently where cases have been solved on police intuition alone. Good work fellas, two less low-lives off the street for a while.

My parents back in the UK were screwed over the other night while they slept. Certainly a lot more common there, I think. The bastards took their car, money, keys and some. Our house in Kathu has also been robbed, however it was our fault for not locking the door properly. It pisses me off so much! It's sad that the robbers in case were so young! I wouldn't wish death on them.. but I really hope they learn their lesson!

I don't think it is a good idea to show pictures of people's i.d. especially with the numbers easily displayed. Identity theft is a real thing and that gives someone enough information to get started.
