BY 9pm the road was blocked by a crowd of several hundred people and reports were coming to Phuketwan of 45-minute delays in getting to Phuket International Airport. The Phuket Police Commander was at the scene. There had been no intervention by the Governor or a Vice Governor, once standard procedure with a long-running local protest.
Original Report
PHUKET: About 100 angry family and friends mobbed Phuket's Thalang Police Station this afternoon after two young men were killed in a crash as police pursued them over drugs allegations.
The fatal crash took place on the road to Ton Sai waterfall, on the east of the holiday island about 11am, killing the young men aged 17 and 22.
Details are not yet clear but about 5pm it was reported in one online social network that a crowd of about 100 had gathered outside the Thalang Police Station in Thepkasattri Road, Phuket's main north south thoroughfare.
According to the report, at least one window at the police station had been broken.
The boys were both locals from Thepkasattri sub-district.
The Phuketwan news service is closing from December 31.
First you battled the smog to get onto the island, my airoplane was delayed by and hour and a bit on Tuesday night, trying to leave. Now you battle to get to the airport with the Thepkassatri Arterial road cut off.
Will some official, any official worth their blood, actually tame the island and bring back law and order please?
