PHUKET: A bus carrying tourists from Krabi to Phuket has overturned as the driver swerved to avoid a sedan that cut across his path on a six-lane highway.
Sixteen of 27 people on board needed hospital treatment but only two suffered injuries regarded as serious.
The passengers were from Malaysia and India, and the crash came about 3pm yesterday not long after the bus left Ao Luk for Phuket.
A far worse bus crash occurred about 12.30am today on the road between Chiang Mai and Bangkok when eight people were killed and 51 injured.
Police believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Photos taken at the scene showed body bags in a row at the death site.

Yet another Thai bus driver asleep at the wheel, bring in tacho graph technology i.e. drive time limits for drivers. The amount of deaths this year alone must justify them, but life's cheap and cures cost money.
