KARON beach didn't just rock and roll last night it royed.
Phuket's first Roy (Fun) Music Festival proved to be a superb September surprise . . . and because it was free, nobody was going to complain about the cost of entry.
And there's another starburst to come tonight.
With sand between toes, hundreds of Thais and tourists danced the night away last night to some great music being pumped out from a huge stage that dominated the beach area.
Fans of all ages came along to enjoy a bright new idea that was the first of its kind. Tonight's reprise deserves to do even better, if the Goddess of Rain decides she likes the sounds.
The atmosphere was laid-back and family-friendly, with something of a carnival atmosphere, and plenty of food stalls. Market crafts were there, too, mixed with mighty motorbikes.
The music was first-class. People danced along, or just sat on the beach enjoying the unusual Phuket event.
There was even a pink VW Kombi. Didn't we last see that vehicle at Woodstock back in '69?
With a regular slot among Phuket's long calendar of festivals, no reason why the Roy could not repeat this year's performance and draw music lovers to the island in droves.
