Despite the intervention of two neurosurgeons, flown in from Australia to try to save his life, Kenny Bakker had his life support turned off yesterday, a newspaper in his home city reports.
A well known tattooist in the Gold Coast area of Queensland, Mr Bakker fell from the eighth floor of his Phuket hotel as his sister looked on in horror, the Gold Coast Bulletin said.
He was pronounced brain dead by local doctors but his family refused to give up hope and made a dash to Thailand, taking with them two Australian neurosurgeons who operated on him to relieve swelling of the brain.
Mr Bakker's family maintained a bedside vigil throughout the week, the newspaper reported, asking people on Facebook to respect their privacy and relay their messages of support on the social networking site.
Is it just me or have there been a lot of people accidentally falling from balconies lately? Are balcony railings lower in Thailand than the west?
