SEX on or near a holiday beach seems to have appeal to some visitors, but two cases from police files this week say a lot about the difference between Pattaya and Patong.
CASE 1, Pattaya: About midnight on Thursday, police discovered three people, a man and two women, having sex in a Toyota Vios parked on a road near the beach. The three people in the car turned out to be holidaymaking expats. ''What's wrong? In our country, it's ok to do this,'' police said they were told by the two women, who were naked, and the man, who was wearing only a shirt. The three were fined, and allowed to go, with instructions that such behavior was not tolerated in Thailand. The man, it turned out, was a 34-year-old Russian policeman, taking a break.
CASE 2, Patong: A policeman in civilian clothes was alerted by locals about 9.30pm on Wednesday to a disturbance on the beach opposite Soi Bangla. A man wearing only a shirt was being given oral sex by five lady boy katoeys, the police officer discovered. The man, the officer quickly learned, was a visitor from Dubai. He had paid the ladyboys 300 baht for the experience. All six participants were fined 500 baht each. The ladyboys went to a 7-Eleven store and spent their 300 baht on five beers, which they shared on the beach.
Conclusion: Whether it's Patong or Pattaya, men like to keep their shirts on.
