Patrons and staff are tested for drugs in Patong last night

Patong Drugs Hunters Draw a Bar Blank . . . Again

Friday, September 30, 2011
PHUKET: Patong has passed a drugs-test campaign for the second time this week with flying colors.

Although 55 people were tested for drugs last night during a relatively low-key raid by police and local health officials, led by Colonel Nikorn Chootong, none came up positive.

The drug-testing mostly took place in and around the Moneynight Bar in Soi Happy, part of Patong that is frequented by Russian holidaymakers.

Last night's clean bill followed a more public check led by Phuket Police Commander Major General Pekad Tantipong earlier in the week that also produced no positive results.

Cynics will say that ''Cinderella'' raids after midnight might actually tell a different story, but Piya Itsaramalan, owner of the Tiger group, welcomes the random testing and endorses the bid by Kathu police, who oversee Patong, to make the popular tourist destination drugs-free.

But some of the Russian tourists might have had more than 100 baht in their pocket, which as Russian tourists go is suspicious. Arrest them.

If they were to run a couple of drug sniffer dogs around bangla the poor buggers' noses would explode. I wonder if someone might have tipped the bars in and around soi happy, surely not in patong.

Not surprised it got a clean bill of health again when you get a tip off there's going to be a raid.

Where's Oddball when you need him - always with the negative waves Moriarity, always with the negative waves!! Interesting to read that Bangla is a hot bed of drug trafficking Scunner - I think you will find most drug deals take place out of the public eye. Even when the police try to be proactive here all some of you can do is knock them.
