The beggars talk to police at Patong's Kathu Police Station

Patong Beggars Arrested After Child's Cry Alarms Policeman

Saturday, September 24, 2011
PHUKET: A policeman who saw a young beggar's infant crying in Patong's Soi Bangla walking street arrested three Cambodian women last night, Phuket officers said.

The three women and their four infants were taken to the Immigration Department in Phuket City where they will await deportation. The woman failed to produce visas or other documents.

Phuket officials say that while tourists tend to see beggars in Patong and other west coast tourist destinations and imagine they are Thai, most of the beggars and flower sellers are Burmese or Cambodian.

There are dozens of Cambodian beggars in Phuket and hundreds of them in Pattaya. They work for any organised crime gang, in return for meagre food rations and a room to sleep. Each beggar can make several thousand baht a day for the gang, but receives no payment other than food and lodging. This is better than what they have back home in Cambodia.

Great quote again from Phuketwan with no source reinforcing the thai belief that everyone from bordering countries are beggars and thieves while all Thais are angels! Just because you have married a Thai Ed your editorial honor should be above this crap.

Reading what's not there and knowing what's not true requires immediate medical attention, Jimmy. Your imagination is taking over.

The authorities should arrest and deport all the flower sellers and the like in Phuket City. They are becoming more persistent and even abusive every day. I have had many good evenings out, spoilt by these beggars.

Note to beggars, if I don't buy your damn flowers when I first see you, I will not buy your damn flowers half an hour later OK?

Dun, you are the lowest of the low, even taking advantage of beggars! "I have had many good evenings out, spoilt by these beggars." I for one would love to be spoiled by a beggar and treated to a good evening out! Don't you think you're a lot richer than them, you sponging freeloader? Did you allow the beggar to buy all your drinks and your meal too? You're despicable. Go home.
