David, naked as the famous statue, hangs out in Patong last night

Naked Tourist Goes Shopping in Phuket Mall

Wednesday, April 9, 2014
PHUKET: A naked tourist caused merriment and some shock among onlookers last night when he clambered over the fence from the new Sleep With Me resort to the Jungceylon retail mall in Patong, on Phuket's west coast. Perhaps he was shopping for pyjamas. Without means of identification, police settled on calling him ''David'', cuffed him and carted him off for attention at Patong Hospital. He said he was Canadian.

Next year the governor will have to ask tourists "not to do a David" at Songkran.

When all the nudist camps are booked out other hotels have to take up the excess. He had been told that hotels in patong were very accommodating to those requiring French skills and he just wanted to see if the hotel lived up to its name!
Surely Richard or William would have been more appropriate based on identifiable features, then again, maybe this was considered and David was less embarrassing than being called Junior.

TAT you certainly doing yourself proud by bringing in the "Quality tourists" you so wanted to keep your travel arrival figures up. What's up with Phuket, never heard of this type of nonsense happening anywhere else, but in Phuket. Tourists, shape up or ship out.

If you just went through the winter we had this year you would understand the man's reaction to warm weather.

@ DuncanB..agree..Through sheer desperation of TAT to keep the numbers up..this is the inevitable result and now is the norm..Shape up or ship out wont work here..these are the people that were wooed to come here by TAT and others.
Phuket is simply getting what it deserves now.

Andre, the TAT says it is keen to attract only quality tourists and the standard of the tourists on Phuket is set by resort managements. If they force prices lower through foolish competition, the result is a drop in standards and spending.

I'd have thought 'Peter Perfect' would have been a good temporary moniker. Now, where's Penelope?

Ed, are you calling competition foolish? No wonder Tuk Tuk's rule supreme on this island.

The price of rooms has nothing to do with tuk-tuks, Ty. And there's not much point in guessing what I think.

@duncanB and those who criticised TAT over such article. Perhaps you are living in a cave to think this kind of nonsense never exists anywhere else in the world, just a few weeks ago, a naked man was apprehanded on Singapore MRT...and to actually think that every single tourist in Thailand is here because of TAT's campaign is totally ridiculous. Perhaps, you will point finger at the sky for your kid who got sick playing in the rain.

Every destination wants good quality tourists, but at the same time the infrastructure should at least be at par. If TAT can get rid of the various mafia's and riff raff, then they'll get what they want. Building a foundation without cracks isn't easy.
