It said the industry would campaign worldwide to promote Thailand as a holiday destination, with the priority of attracting more visitors from South and Southeast Asia, France and Britain.

From one August visitor to Phi Phi and Phuket: ''In 15 days got 2 days virtually cloudless, about 2 where it rained more often than not (but these still had some sunny breaks and were not write-offs), and the rest were the normal mixture of one or a few showers, sun/scattered cloud. What to Do This Weekend

TOURISTS are being invited to see what Old Phuket Town really looked like without all those power lines dangling from poles. From 5pm until midnight on Sunday, December 27, enjoy local food amid Thalang Road and Soi Romanee in Old Phuket Town, with the power lines buried underground. The island's Sino-Portuguese-style architecture never looked better. Nor does the entry price to the fourth 'Local Life' festival. It's free. Here's a great start to exploring Phuket's real culture.

Quote " Guns and knives were impounded, along with seven motorcycles and black-visor helmets, when the 11 were arrested in a raid on a rented house on December 19."

Great headlines to sell the story.

You are publishing this as " breaking news " on Dec 23. 4 days later.

You fail to mention what this gang of 11 were responsible for except for that of being loan sharks, some pertinent details please otherwise it's only headlines, zero news, where is the nitty gritty.

" As they say, If you read it in the news, you've missed it. "

I had hoped that Phuketwan was going to give us the deserving news service this island needs. It seems that the 'dark influences' have spread to the public's and newspapers right to free speech.

Editor: Covering the news on Phuket is, as it is in every other place, a matter of what one learns and when, as well as available resources. Many stories are only partly told. Add the issue of transliteration, and gathering news becomes more complicated here. The report was not categorised as 'breaking news' but as part of the daily Mediawatch 'Phuket News Digest.' Given the price you pay for your news, it may be unreasonable to expect perfection. We've yet to encounter the mythical ''dark influences,'' but when we do, you will be among the first to know.
