Phuketwan MediaWATCH

ELEVEN people were injured when an M79 grenade exploded outside the home of former PM Banhan Silapa-acha in Bangkok last night. Khun Banhan is viewed as an ally of the ruling Democrat Party. In Thailand's second-largest city, Chiang Mai, an administrative building was hit by a grenade, Thai media outlets reported. No injuries occurred in Chiang Mai. To confuse the army and other opponents, red protesters are now wearing other colors.

PM Keen to Clear Streets

bangkokpost.com Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva vowed to clear Bangkok's commercial heart of red shirt protesters as he appeared on national television Sunday in a show of unity with his army chief. It's a political crisis that has divided families, split colleagues and destroyed friendships, and not to mention taken lives.

It is also a massive US$5.7 billion bet on the future of Asian gambling. Developer Las Vegas Sands Corp. and its chairman, Sheldon Adelson, have created ambitious casino-resorts in the past, but none quite like Marina Bay, which industry observers are comparing with iconic regional landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Towers. Analysts say Marina Bay, which opens Tuesday, could become the world's most lucrative casino.
