Landslip Strikes Close to Phuket's Big Buddha: Photo Special
By Chutima Sidasathian Wednesday, October 9, 2013
PHUKET: A landslip near Phuket's iconic Big Buddha carried away fake trees and came perilously close to workers' huts yesterday. The hilltop Big Buddha, one of Phuket's most popular tourist attractions, remains surrounded by open-earth slopes. This cleared area is most likely in a forest reserve area of the Namkherd Hills. If the real trees had been left standing there probably would not have been a landslip.
Replacing what was a diverse and 'protected' natural environment with concrete is an outrage in itself, but sadly the future of the whole island.
