WHEN YOU have a hot car it's nice to be seen. But the driver of a neat red Peugeot found his car a bit too hot this afternoon.
He noticed the smell, which was probably the wiring, as he approached the Tesco Lotus intersection from Patong.
''I knew something was wrong so I stopped the car and got out,'' said Swiss hotelier David Rejwan, 65, a 15-year Phuket resident who runs the South Sea Patong Resort.
Before long, the car, which he had purchased second hand five months ago, was ablaze.
''I have no idea why it happened but I think it was probably the wiring.''
Traffic backed up for some distance after the blaze broke out about 1.15pm. Firemen arrived quickly to put out the blaze.
While on hot Phuket cars, the Governor, Wichai Praisa-nob, collects his new official vehicle tomorrow.
It's a Toyota Camry hybrid. All 76 governors throughout the country are in line to collect new vehicles just like this one, said to demonstrate a new relationship with the environment.
