A TWO-headed turtle upstaged the Royal Navy's annual release of turtle hatchlings to mark HRH The Queen's Birthday and Mother's Day.
The mother of the two-headed turtle is not known but there was a flurry of interest at Tablamu in Phang Nga, the province north of Phuket, when officers showed off the unusual creaure today.
Just 16 days old, the turtle was found at the Navy hatching reserve in the Similan islands. Because of its unusual characteristics, the two-headed turtle was not permitted today to join 279 turtles of all sizes released back to the sea at the Third Navy Base at Cape Panwa on Phuket.
Local Phuket children joined officers and VIPs in today's turtle release.
