Moving down from Phuket's terminal one to terminal two, the boy apparently mistook the handrail for a headrail.
Staff saw what happened and quickly stopped the escalator in time before the boy lost any hair. Paramedics at the airport were able to remove his hair without permanent damage.
At one stage, they held him horizontally to dislodge his hair.
The boy was checked for injuries, interviewed by officers from Tachatchai Police Station, who patrol the airport, and allowed to catch his 10pm flight.
Australians have a growing reputation on Phuket for getting into mischief, either accidentally or deliberately.
Dear Ed
Love the picture!
Is that Mum on the right yelling: "This is where to keep your hair! ... Don't leave it in the escalator!!"
To be fair on the kid, it is so tempting to take a mini-nap while riding an escalator as the whole family rushes to catch an international flight. I am sure many of your readers have also been tempted to rest their weary heads in this way ... and get some attention as a bit of a bonus.
I wonder if his friends at school will see the story and picture? Is it true that the nurse was heard to say: "Stupid falang kid."
