PHUKET: A maid found a German tourist dead in her bath at a Phuket hotel yesterday afternoon, with the tap still running.
Police say the death was probably the result of a preexisting condition or a heart attack but are leaving all possibilities open at this stage.
The 64-year-old checked in at the Royal Phuket City Hotel late on July 30 and was due to check out on August 8.
The maid told Phuket City police that the woman was drinking alcohol in her room at 9.30am on Thursday, when staff cleaned the room.
On Friday, the maid said, she knocked on the door several times to clean the room.
At 2.30pm, with no answer, she asked another staffer to open the door.
The woman was found in the bath, with the tap still running and the aircon set for 15 degrees. There were no signs of a disturbance and no marks on the woman, police said.
Kusoldharm Foundation workers took the woman's body to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City.
Phuketwan has been supplied with the woman's name but will withhold publication until relatives have been notified.
