When arrested on August 21, the accused was in possession of 200 ya bah methamphetamine tablets and a single-shot homemade thai pradit pen gun, police said.
A bizarre set of circumstances unfolded on the night of what may originally have been an attempted rape, a Phuketwan reporter has been able to confirm.
The 25-year-old told police that she had a big night out in Patong and set out to return to her apartment at 3am on August 17.
She was inebriated and after catching a motorcycle taxi, forgot the location of her apartment. At a set of traffic lights, a man on another motorcycle pulled up and offered to help.
She switched to ride pillion on his motorcycle, but instead of taking the woman home, he took her to a secluded stretch of jungle and, armed with a knife, exposed himself to her.
The man was unable to achieve an erection, and demanded that she masturbate him, the woman said.
However, after a time the attempt was abandoned. Instead, the woman said, the man took her purse, which included an IPad and a cellphone, and her ATM card.
He intimidated her to gain her ATM password and soon after withdrew 5000 baht from the account, leaving her with 500 baht.
Instead of writing off the incident as an expensive night out, the woman went to Vichit Police Station.
On August 21, officers arrested Suwit Kanchananan, 30, at his house in Vichit Moo 6 and charged him with several offences, including possession of drugs, an illegal weapon, indecent exposure and theft.
News of the case was revealed today at a regular monthly meeting between Governor Maitree and the island's police superintendents at Phuket Police HQ in Phuket City.
"Instead of writing off the incident as an expensive night out, the woman went to Vichit Police Station"
I would certainly hope so!
