Hands up all those who are almost naked and having fun. OK, get him!

Dear Mum, I'm on Phuket, Getting Loaded and Loving Every Shot

PHUKET: More people than usual were getting loaded in Patong today, and before noon. Shots were being given away to passersby.

And strolling the streets were big shots and little shots.

Yes, it was Songkran New Year being celebrated in Phuket's wild, wet West. Funny, though, that it was also being celebrated all over the rest of Phuket and Thailand, too.

The aftershock from Wednesday's earthquake turns out so far to have Phuket's tourist population both shaken, then stirred into New Year action on Thursday and Friday.

It was as easy to get wet walking along Patong's Soi Bangla as it was taking a dip at the beach, especially if you happened to be wearing a bikini and a smile.

Phuket's easy-going approach to life returned as holidaymakers resumed their fun after Wednesday's wobbles.

And a mass evacuation one day is followed by world's biggest water fight.

What's not to like about Phuket, the vacation destination that gives you so much to write home about?

Never ceases to gladden my heart, a whole nation, in party mode, playing like kids having so much fun, yes, some are affectted by alcohol and drugs, but I have yet to witness any kind of aggression or violence, we westerners can learn a lot from songkran. Happy Songkran to all. suk san wan songkran

Songkran is my favorite festival in Thailand, though I celebrate it in my own safe way.

This being my 8th here on Phuket, I was a bit surprised to see far less crowds than usual around Patong, Karon and Kata. Perhaps the Tsunami warning scared away some.

Good news is I only saw one accident and no crazy drunks behaving badly.

It's also the one day I really feel sorry for the local police force.

Try fooling with the police on Times Square on NY eve and you'll get a very different reaction.
