PHUKET: The Canadian embassy in Bangkok has taken the unusual step of warning citizens about a typhoon that will soon hit the Southeast Asia mainland.
Two million people have been left without power in the Philippines and at least 12 people have been killed as strong winds and floods created havoc.
Now Typhoon Nari is expected to strike Vietnam on Monday or Tuesday and ''progress with strength well into Thailand, Laos and Cambodia,'' says the embassy warning to Canadians in the region.
Authorities in Thailand said they hoped Typhoon Nari would weaken and not cause much damage in the country's already inundated northeast region.
Concerns in Southeast Asia match those of Indian officials as Cyclone Phailin makes landfall there, with as many as 500,000 people already forced to flee their homes along the country's east coast.
Winds were measured at 200 kmh as Cyclone Phailin hit the coast near Gopalpur, Orissa state, late last night.
Authorities had predicted a storm surge of at least three metres that was expected to cause extensive damage.
Sweeping in from the Bay of Bengal, it's reckoned to be the biggest storm threat to the region in 14 years.

Do you have a link as I cannot find any advisory at the Canadian Embassy (Bangkok) site nor at the main Travel Canada site. Nari is mentioned for the Philippines.
