Police nabbed two men after loading kratom onto a Phuket-bound bus

Bus Bound for Phuket Packed With Kratom, Alcohol and Cigarettes, Say Police

Thursday, November 26, 2015
PHUKET: Two men were caught red-handed after they loaded 188 kilos of kratom leaves onto a bus in Hat Yai that was scheduled for Phuket, police revealed yesterday.

As well as the illegal narcotic leaves, officers found 48 bottles of illicit alcohol and 100 cigarettes on which no duty had been paid, secreted near the driver's seat.

Officers were able to spy at a service station where they said they saw U-don Pangjino, 53, the bus driver, take delivery of kratom from one pickup and then meet with Mongkol Kaewmanee, 28, the driver of a second pickup.

Khun U-don later confessed that he had been paid 7000 baht to carry the kratom to Phuket, police said.

Dealers say there is such a market for kratom on Phuket that demand continues to exceed supply.

Obviously they need a licence ... Naughty boys. But 1) alcohol - legal, 2) cigarettes - legal, 3) kratom - didn't I recently read that it was to become legal because it was such a weak stimulant ? How many policemen ? And how proud are they !?! It amazes me how police resources are distributed.

@ james.
Yes, it seems that joining the suspects 'photo safari' ( here 10 police officers) is a part of the police job description.

Not yet talking about abusing suspects rights not to be shown. (international laws)
They don't do that in Australia.
Amazing Thailand.

They can catch so many people on kratom and drugs every day with locals renting their canoes in Phang Nga bay area. When asked, National park rangers will openly say that they cant enforce the rules because locals are always on drugs and it is not safe for them...

What's happened to all the finger pointing, seems to come in and out of fashion. How are we supposed to know who the criminals are without at least a single finger and with some Police in plain clothes it is really confusing.
