A maid discovered the body of the man, slumped on a white sofa, at about 6pm yesterday at Absolute Bangla Suites. Patong police believe he had been dead for about two days.
The man was aged 76. Police believe there were no suspicious circumstances.
Photographs of the scene show the man lying on a white sofa - the decor of the suites is vivid red, white and black. He is wearing a white singlet and tan shorts. His feet, clad in white shoes and socks, are on a small red carpet mat under a coffee table.
On the table is a bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label, an opened can of Coca-Cola, and an empty glass. A portion of both the whisky and the Coke have been consumed.
Also on the table are a couple of magazines, and a wristwatch. The man's zipper is undone, as if he has sat down to relax alone with a drink.
Records show he arrived on Phuket on February 13. Phuketwan has been given the man's name, but will withhold publication until relatives have been notified.
The body is in Patong Hospital.

That's what happens when you drink Red instead of Black...
And never take your watch off at the same time you sit on a white sofa when you have your zipper down; that's just asking for it.
