The clifftop sala at the ritzy Samui resort where the naked body was found

Bondage, Drugs Riddle: Naked Body of Young American Woman Found at Exclusive Samui Resort

Thursday, June 26, 2014
PHUKET: Police are today investigating a fatal mystery involving drugs and sexual bondage following the discovery at a ritzy resort on the Thai holiday island of Samui of the naked body of an American woman.

The 27-year-old woman's British boyfriend was helping officers with inquiries after the grisly discovery on a clifftop beside a swimming pool overlooking the sea, where the couple had slept together at their 22,500 baht a night luxury villa.

An empty vodka bottle was found floating in the private swimming pool while inside the villa detectives found handcuffs, a whip, morphine and packs of Viagra.

There were no signs of violence on the American woman's naked body, Samui police said.

Staff at the five-star villa resort in Baan Lam told police the couple checked in on June 21 and were due to leave on Sunday. The couple were last seen alive having dinner at the resort about 7pm on Tuesday evening.

The 29-year-old British man called the resort's spa at 7am on Wednesday morning to book an appointment for the pair at 10am.

Then at 9.30am, the spa staff reported to police, he called in tears to say he was unable to awaken his girlfriend from her slumber.

Paramedics and police called to the luxury villa found the woman's body, naked, in the poolside sala overlooking the ocean.

The British man told officers the pair had shared some drinks after dinner and decided to spend the night asleep in the sala.

When he awoke early on Wednesday and booked the spa treatment, he decided to let his friend sleep on. He was distressed when he could not rouse her for their 10am spa appointment.

Police are keen to question the British man further. Phuketwan has been supplied with the names of the couple but will not publish them until we can be sure that relatives have been notified.

Just to avoid any misunderstanding - and I know how important accuracy is to you - maybe you could use the word "naked" a few more times. I'm sure the girl's family will be grateful to you.

Editor Comment:

In the interests of accuracy, your use of the word ''girl'' is extremely patronising. We mourn every needless death. Our suspicion is that the young woman's relatives are probably far less concerned than you are about minor details but will most likely now be regretting their lost opportunity to save her life. RIP.

Ed, one suspects your nit picking on the use of the word "girl" is not only more "patronising" but far less "concerning", especially as the word is generally, in a wider definition, accepted...eg, the girls have gone shopping, it's a girls night out.

As one of the boys, you're always going to say that, Laurie. You go from picking one nit - and one fight - after another, without regard for logic.

I'm with Ed on this one, LH. Use of "girl" for fully grown women is as sexist as it gets- all about diminishing female status and assigning sexual values- they're girls when sexually attractive. Yes, I'm sure I can look it up in a dictionary, where it will be shown that sexism is institutionalised within the English language.

TNM, so you are skeptik from one of the other sites, I fail to understand why you and Ed argue against accepted common use, you both need to start your own campaign to change the world, start by writing to the publishers of dictionaries, otherwise your words are wasted.
Ed, why is my comment not logical, another attempt to belittle me, if anything it was your ill thought comment to matt that lacks logic.

Editor Comment:

Most people only refer to adult women as ''girls'' in a playful, appropriate context. Failure to distinguish tragedy from trivia is one of your failings, Laurie. The death of a woman at the age of 27 is a tragedy, and an inappropriate moment for you and matt to make fools of yourselves.

Understand, Laurie, that I'm not interested in feeding your ego or playing games. Cease you pointless interfering, add value, or don't bother.

Laurie Howells,
Not sure what revealing user names I may or may not use on another site has to do with this issue?
If a male age 27 were found deceased, would commentators be calling him " boy"?
No, they wouldn't. Calling women "girls" is sexist and rooted in chauvinistic attitudes. And again, pointing out systemic sexism within the lexicon doesn't argue your point that it isn't demeaning to women to call them a term meant for children. Yes, language is sexist and until the usage is equalized, women cannot be.

TNM, you can call me boy anytime you wish and I will call you my favourite night whore!

Man O' War,
The War Whores is the moniker I use when addressing certain subjects involving a certain military. It's a play on words ( whores/horse...,) and not literal, I'm not a prostitute, nor even a horse, actually. Is anyone surprised you read it wrong in order to insert a rather,...er, lame insult ?

TNM, there is no need to explain yourself, i understand the problem of not knowing whether you are an Arthur or Martha. Trapped inside yourself, angry with the world for what you have not become but wish you could. Wanting to unleash those shackles that society has placed upon you and return them to the closet. The self obsession that in your mind you are always right. The displeasure of seeing others enjoy themselves while you fight yourself from within.
