UPDATE
THE BLAZE killed three poodles locked in the store and destroyed accommodation for 20 workers. Coconut palms rigged as power poles will interest authorities who recently complained about unsafe provision for power and water at Phuket camps.
Original Report
PHUKET: Fire trucks were racing to a big fire that broke out in a workers' camp near a Phuket five-star resort today.
The blaze sent billows of smoke high into the air near Centara Grand West Sands Resort and Villas Phuket in Mai Khao about 9am, local officials said.
Engineers from the resort, which is next to the Splash Jungle Water Park, did what they could to help. The blaze broke out in a two-storey camp shop while the owner was away.
The smoke, visible from nearby Phuket International Airport, gave the appearance of being from a large blaze.
I would like to quote an answer I got from Thursday, December 20, 2012 4:09:17 PM Sonthaya Thabunprug, manager of the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority (PPEA) Operations & Maintenance Department. I posed the question of electricity supply to Burmese workers camps that I have seen that were darn right dangerous. Here is the answer:-" When installing power supply to a Burmese workers' camp, PPEA officers connect the power supply wire to the nearest large power pole. If you see any connections you suspect may be illegal, please call the PPEA Operations & Maintenance Department at 076-210379 and we will check it out."
Looks like you did not do too good in this instance K Sonthaya. Srisoonthorn workers camps are the next ones to go up in flames.
