PHUKET: The death has been announced of property developer Johan Hansen, who oversaw projects in Belgium and Croatia and opened his first Asian resort on Phuket earlier this month.
In a statement a spokesperson for the BB Resort on Phuket announced: ''On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, Mr Johan Hansen, our visionary CEO at BB Phuket passed away peacefully in Bangkok.
''We stand together with his family in grief during this time. The staff and partners of BB Phuket will continue his vision and carry on the legacy in the spirit of Johan Hansen.''
The BB Phuket in Phuket City was opened with the launch of 2000 butterflies on March 3. Mr Hansen, aged about 50, clearly enjoyed the event.
He was quoted as saying: ''BB Phuket is the result of the inspiration I found when I came to this magical area for the very first time.
''The tree in front of the resort was my original muse, my stimulus for creating this beautiful resort; I genuinely believe my passionate and dedicated creative team has delivered the most incredible island destination in the region, and it's still growing, still metamorphosising.
''Thank you to the amazing people who have made this vision a reality.''
The restaurant at the resort was named Jo' Ha'. Previously Mr Hansen ran a private real estate development company in Belgium that in 2005 was renamed Skyline Projects, according to beachprojects.com,
Mr Hansen was involved with VVM, the first Private Finance Initiative (PFI) in the Belgian real estate market, and later with Hansen Delmatico on the Croatian island of Brac, near the city of Split.
''Our many commercial projects include the Namur Office Park (the largest office park in Wallonia) and the Business and Media Park near Brussels,'' says a summary online of his work.
