MORE THAN 10 million baht in copy goods were confiscated by special detectives in a swoop on five stores in Patong this week.
Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Adidas, Rolex and Chanel were the brands being sought when the Department of Intellectual Property went ''shopping'' on Phuket on Wednesday with the Department of Special Investigations.
A team led by Intellectual Property chief Prawat Moonpramuk raided the first copy store in Patong and arrested Rungtam Wattanapong, seizing 2190 watches.
The shopping trip continued with 350 Vuitton, Chanel and Burberry bags being taken from a second store, with Timanporn Siridontanakasam placed under arrest.
More watches were next on the list, with 1430 picked up at a third store, along with the arrest of Somchai Jirajarukit.
Bags, watches and clothing amounting to 855 items, along with the arrest of Sutiwong Bitoonjaternsuk, came next.
But as any female tourist can tell you, one can never have enough bags. So Manat Pongsupkit was taken into custody, with 399 items.
The bags, clothing and other copy goods in the haul were all taken back to Bangkok.
