The headline uses the word "raped" but the news item says '"brutal" sexual assault'. They are not necessarily the same. Other news sites have not used the word "rape".

People who are less coy than her employer are using the word rape. The woman is still in hospital, an indication of the seriousness of the assault. Naming a rape victim may also be a legal issue in the US. Here's what themoderatevoice.com says: The circumstances under which Logan was raped - by a mob of men who were supposedly celebrating the resignation of Egypt's president Hosni Mubarak - were, if there can be degrees of horror when it comes to rape, about as horrifying as any human being could imagine.

For your information...from Nine MSN site....The assault lasted for around 20 to 30 minutes, an insider told the Wall Street Journal, though they stated that it was "not a rape".

I wonder then why the sexual nature of the attack was emphasised so prominently. A ''savage beating'' surely would have been sufficient if it was not a rape. Digital penetration is, of course, rape. As a good journalist, i am sure she will eventually explain exactly what happened.
