A SYDNEY MAN who falsified a theft report to cheat on an insurance claim is likely to face court on Tuesday and be deported almost immediately. He arrived on February 5 and was a student with three buddies at a Thai boxing school in Chalong. He could not produce his passport because he left it with a motorcycle hirer - a no-no for wise tourists. Someone told him scamming insurance companies was easy, he said when he confessed.

Original Report

PHUKET: A young Australian tourist fabricated a claim that he had been robbed of cash and goods worth 389,000 baht, Phuket police said today.

Alex Ayad Gorgees, 19, from Sydney, went to Karon Police Station just after 5pm yesterday and claimed a bag containing his valuables had been stolen by two men and a woman outside Club Med, on Kata beach.

However, police examined security camera footage from the scene at the time the man said he was robbed and found no incident of the kind he described.

Mr Gorgees said the bag that was stolen included a gold ring, cash, a watch and an IPhone 6 to the value of 389,000 baht.

I am sure an upstanding citizen from Australia can easily provide purchase receipts of the phone and money withdrawn from his country as well as a photo of the ring.

A few nights in the overcrowded settings on Phuket prison ( It's on the bus route) may change his mind.

Aussie Alex, If, yes only, if you are guilty I don't mind if they keep you 389 days in Thai jail.
