AN AUSTRALIAN tourist has died of an apparent heart attack beside a swimming pool at a four-star resort in Patong.
The man, named as James William Bourke, 58, collapsed after a swim at Banthai Beach Resort & Spa on the beach road about 5.30pm yesterday. Staff said he fell to the ground as he returned to his spot on a poolside lounger.
Other reports say Mr Bourke had to be pulled from the pool. It is believed some guests attempted cardiac resuscitation.
Mr Bourke is understood to come from Werribee, near Melbourne. He arrived at the resort on August 30 and was due to leave on September 4.
His brother Allan and his sister-in-law were staying at another Patong hotel. Australian embassy officials are helping with arrangements to repatriate the body.
