Wanted: the Phuket bank bandit who escaped today with 300,000 baht

Armed Phuket Bank Raider Rides Off With 260,000 Baht

Monday, January 7, 2013
PHUKET: A bank robber waving a handgun escaped with about 260,000 baht in a stickup on Phuket this afternoon.

The bandit, wearing a blue and white crash helmet, pulled off the raid and rode away on a motorcycle about 12.40pm.

His target, a Kasikorn Bank branch at a Tesco Lotus Express shopping outlet in Chao Fa East Road, Chalong, had been raided once before.

Security camera footage of the bandit is likely to assist police in their hunt.

Kasikorn was the target of the previous bandit who made off with more than two million baht because there were no security guards. There are still no security guards.

I thought it was against the law to enter a bank or store with a crash helmet on? Oh stupid me, there are no laws here, only compromises.

Phuket is becoming like the wild west, almost every day we read of a gun incident. Banks need to install the Double Magnetic Glass doors, and when a helmet is detected or anything that covers the face, then the second door cannot be opened. If a Gun is detected then he/she is encased until the police arrive, as we have in SA. Our bank robberies are few now.

Question: Lotus express, Chao Faah east road, in Chalong, with a Kasikorn close by. Where is that shop exactly? Opposite the police? Someone raids a bank opposite the main police station?
Because the other 'Express', close to the 'Zoo'-junction, is not having a Kasikorn for sure. Or is there any other Lotus-Express on Chao Faah east, in Chalong, that I have ignored, so far?

oh, Robin, robbing the bank is also against the law. No compromise here.

@Gregg: the costs for this security measures are much higher then the casual robberies happening. Next they go to Seven shops... Getting the guns out of the island would be worth much more this trouble.
