PHANG NGA'S attempt on the world record number of people diving together has been postponed until November.
The dive was to have taken place off Thai Muang beach on Saturday, April 3.
However, Phang Nga Governor Yiamsuriya Palusuk told Phuketwan today that the monsoon season had arrived, bringing rain and making conditions unsuitable for a mass dive.
''November will be better,'' he said. ''It will mean a dive in the high season, which is bound to be more appealing to more divers.''
He said the aim of the record-setting attempt was to have at least 3000 divers go down simultaneously to a depth of 10 metres for one minute.
The township of Thai Muang is a short drive north of Phuket. Both Phang Nga and Phuket provinces are popular destinations all year for divers, although some dive sites, including the highly-regarded Similan islands, are closed during the monsoon season.
