PHUKET: An American man has been found dead on a sofa in his room at a resort in the Phuket beachside destination of Kalim.

Staff found the man, aged 67, at Patong Lodge - Kalim is the next beach north of Patong - about 2.20pm yesterday.

His body was taken to Patong Hospital. There were no suspicious circumstances.

Police said the US Embassy would be notified today.
