PHUKET'S entertainment ''flying saucer'' is set to take off this coming week, with an Indochine pool party to be followed quickly by a cool club gig.
In Phuket's most anticipated opening since the Splash Jungle waterpark, the Indochine Resort and its signature four-tier dining and clubbing venue are about to be switched on to activate Phuket's nightlife scene.
A pool party on Indochine's upper reaches on Sunday is to be followed on Tuesday by the first club outing in the saucer itself.
While original Villa Santi site developer Bart Duykers no longer has a hands-on role with the resort or the food and entertainment outlets, he is keen to see the project open at the conclusion of years of hard work.
''All told, it can hold about 1000 people,'' Mr Duykers said to Phuketwan today. He added about the construction project: ''It has been a very long ride indeed.''
The flying saucer will contain a ground-floor all-day dining outlet, a bar and club above that, a fine dining venue one floor up, and a beach club with pool on the roof.
The distinctive four-level structure on the northern beach road rise from Kalim, about four minutes' drive from Patong, has the potential to become Phuket's best-known dining and entertainment venue.
Sunday's pool party takes place higher up, around the central pool at Indochine, with great views overlooking Patong. Like the Tuesday club opening, it's a ticketted event, open to the public.
Further to the north, the Cape Sienna Resort at Kamala has established a reputation for food and cool music. The Indochine will provide fresh competition.
The soft openings at Kalim are expected to lead on to bigger and better events through the low/summer season, with the restaurant due to be fitted out in six to eight weeks and the pool at the rooftop beach club to follow.
Within three months or so, the remaining rooms at the resort are expected to follow the villas and condos on-stream.
Mr Duykers anticipates that the Indochine brand will attract a young, cool up-market following, just as the brand has in its home base of Singapore.
Tuesday's 'Night of Mayhem' at the Indochine Opium Lounge begins at 9pm and runs until late and includes a line-up of DJs, topped by Steve Aoki, who will also be beside the pool on Sunday. Facebook is offering tickets at 200 baht or 500 baht for VIPs on Tuesday.
Reservations can be made for both events at +66 (0) 8 1079 2756.

Oh, hats off to you, Alan for daring to publish "...Phuket's most anticipated opening since the Splash Jungle waterpark".
It's:
a. True
b. Possible evidence of you not being terribly impartial
or
c. Merely a device for generating lots of hits to your commercialised blog.
Really, well done, though.
