CLUB YAMU has formally announced its launch from New Year 2011 as an all-inclusive resort on Phuket's east coast at Cape Yamu.
There's a strong connection between this pioneering new resort and Twin Palms, the well-known boutique resort on Phuket's west coast at Surin.
Club Yamu will be decidedly different, said resort General Manager Olivier Gibaud.
While Twin Palms pioneered the Phuket Sunday brunch, adding luxury motor yachts and hire cars and now a Harley Davidson ''softtail'' Rocker for rent, Club Yamu is aiming at eco-friendly families.
''We have great respect for the local villagers and have talked to the chiefs about eco-friendly activities of all kinds. It will be a different kind of Phuket holiday,'' says Mr Gibaud.
Interest among other resorts will centre on how the Club Yamu property and its pace-setting management fares with an all-inclusive package, and with an eco-friendly approach.
Guests will be offered daily shuttle trips to Rang Island, which is just 15 minutes away, or be able to enjoy ''exotic adventures'' including ATV rides, elephant riding and mangrove canoe trips either with nearby service providers, or on their own.
Water aerobics, Thai massage, Thai shadow puppet-making, Muay Thai boxing and Thai dance are among the other activities available.
As well as a selection of excursions and activities, airport transfers, all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), snacks, ice creams, soft drinks and juices are included.
Club Yamu provides a choice of two or three bedrooms in 22 luxurious private pool villas with sea views or in 58 double-height garden residences set around a 1600-square-metre swimming pool and tropical gardens.
''Exclusive yet fully inclusive'' is the way the Club Yamu approach is defined. Accent will also be on activities for children, centring on Juk's Adventures Kids' Club.
A media release puts it this way: ''Located a world away from the hectic tourist areas of Phuket, Club Yamu is set on the fringe of an idyllic east-coast cape that still retains its sleepy fishing village charm. The exquisite Phang Nga Bay is within view and within easy reach for those who wish to cruise among its magical karst islands and hidden beaches.''
Getting to the east coast from the west coast should be a breeze on that Harley-Davidson.
Look for more innovations, and imitations.

We know what an article is. What's a ''promo,'' and why should we respond to an anonymous questioner?
