One of the roads that former Phuket Governor Wichai Praisa-ngob wanted built is set to be finished on December 8 and could be open as early as December 10.
The short, winding link runs between Phuket's bypass road and Surakul Sports stadium in Phuket City. Work has been completed at a cost of 24 million baht.
In the future, when FC Phuket is a superfootball team and thousands flock to the stadium to watch home games, the route could be extremely useful. For now it's great as a ''rat run'' for those seeking to cut the Central Festival corner as they turn left into Phuket City.
The other Phuket routes that former Governor Wichai sought for Phuket have yet to win approval.
There's the short but important link through mangrove forest to connect southern Phuket with Phuket City's Saphan Hin park schools and facilities; the Phuket hill route from Chalong to Patong that would cut travel time in half; and the second highway near powerlines from Phuket airport to Phuket City that would provide an alternative to the main Thepkasattri Road route.
More may be known with the opening of the Surakul Stadium ''rat run.''
