Phuket Farmer Told to Demolish Seven Buildings

Monday, July 27, 2009
A FARMER was ordered today to stop construction of several buildings on a stretch of seaside land between Kalim and Kamala.

The farmer, Hern Kebsub, had a sor por kor title to seven rai, which would allow him to raise coconuts or some other agrucultural products.

But a Land Reform Phuket committee at Phuket Provincial Hall told Khun Hern today to demolish the construction on the land.

He was set a deadline of September 30.

The committee heard today that two of the seven buildings on the site each had 10 rooms. Another had nine rooms, and two others had six rooms apiece.

Khun Hern attended the meeting and asked to be given until October next year to carry out the demolition.

However, the committee, headed by Farmers' Committee director Somchai Hangwatcharapaiboon in the absence of the Governor or a Vice Governor, opted not to give Khun Hern an extension.

Now if only Patong authorities would follow suit by ordering the demolition of that ridiculous building that juts into Soi Banzaan, causing an absurd pinch in two-way traffic between Jungceylon and Nanai Road.

Sadly, not holding my breath...
