The Chalong Bay View project in southern Phuket

Phuket Complainant 'Paid 8.45m Baht But No Condo Yet'

Friday, September 16, 2011
PHUKET: A man who complained to the Damrungtam Office at Provincial Hall about a condominium purchase on Phuket says that he has tried several times to contact the managers of the Chalong Bay View condos without success.

In his complaint, Hans Boakim said that he had signed a contract to buy a 114 square metre condo at a cost of 8.45 million baht, which had been fully paid. Construction was to be completed on December 31, 2009, but there had been no handover, he said.

A sub-committee of the Consumer Protection office was told that Mr Boakim had tried to contact management, but there had been no response.

The sub-committee opted to authorise a check on Mr Boakim to make sure his claim was legitimate, and to try to contact Chalong Bay View management.

After the meeting, Phuketwan was able to establish that Phuket resident Gary Ebsen is the newly appointed managing director of Chalong Bay View.

He suggested that Mr Boachim and others who needed an update on the progress of the development contact him at ebseng@yahoo.com

The Damrungtam office, Phuket's equivalent of a European-style Ombudsman, can be found on the ground floor of Provincial Hall, Phuket's administrative headquarters, in Phuket City.

Phuket is corrupt. Don't buy property here unless you plan on some pretty ruthless tactics.

If you pay for something in full, up front, in Phuket, you're making a big mistake. You'll not be getting the goods or services you were expecting.

Almost 2 years for Hans Boakim to file this complaint? Were their over avenues he tried unsuccessfuly prior to this? Also, what power does the Damrungtam have too resolve an issue like this?

Is investing in real estate in Phuket/ Thailand inherently risky? Regards , Spud.
