PHUKET'S first private airport on private land has been approved at Paklok, east of the Heroines Monument.
The area of 100 rai is to be developed as a special housing project, where pilots can taxi their aircraft and park almost at their front doors.
Phuketwan was told by the head of the management team, Suchat Raksanob, that Department of Civil Aviation approval had been given to the 100 million baht project, which has been given the name Phuket Air Park.
Phuket Air Park wil be developed next to the Orbortor Paklok office, in Moo 2. The airstrip is 500 metres long and 16 metres wide.
Forty houses are scheduled to be part of the project, on land plots varying from half a rai to two rais. Electricity and other wiring will be underground.
''We were granted permission by the DCA on March 15,'' Khun Suchat said. ''We expect to have the whole project finished by January 2009.''
Khun Suchart, a flier for about 20 years, said he expected that Air Park would appeal to people like him, who also love to fly.
Foreigners and Thais would both enjoy having aircraft so close, he said.
He said their were about 30 similar projects in other parts of Thailand. There were no safety concerns, he said.
Aircraft between two and four seaters would be able to use the landing strip.
''Lots of investment is coming to Phuket so I don't think i will have any problems finding buyers.''
The permit was No. 75/2551, Khun Suchat said.
