Name and shame Patong's illegal hotels, says a leading official

Name and Shame Illegal Phuket Hotels, Says Patong Official

Wednesday, July 6, 2011
PHUKET: A senior Phuket official has made a suggestion to expose illegal hotels and guest houses and the time share companies that damage the reputation of Phuket - and Patong especially - as a haven for tourists.

The Permanent Secretary of the Kathu District, Jatupong Keawsai, told a meeting today that the Kathu tessaban council knew which accommodation was legal and which was illegal, and which time share companies were legitimate and which were not.

He suggested the Kathu council, which oversees Patong, should set up an Internet site in the English language that lists all legitimate accommodation, and all illegal accommodation.

He said the same could be done with the time share companies in an effort to bring to an end the street touts who make a nuisance of themselves and are a constant source of annoyance to visitors to Phuket.

Figures for 2010 show there are about 43,000 rooms in registered establishments on Phuket, but officials believe there could be almost as many rooms in illegal establishments.

FS, remember when they were going to catch all the illegal stray dogs and elephants in Bangkok so they could put chips in them so that they could catch them and get them out of Bangkok? Sorry but FS is right if you know who they are and they are illegal why would you not close them?

No wonder that it is hard to run a hotel here with competition from people who don't pay tax

It would be easier to send the Revenue Department for tax control. Al Capone was down that way and it was 90 years ago.

A hint of irony! " ...The kathu tessaban council knew which accommodation was legal and which was illegal ( does it mean only one acco- mmodation? ) If tessaban already " knew " the situation, what it's waiting for to do an action?

If they know the illegal hotels and want to name them why army they quick to name and shame jet ski operators that are illegal and get there names up.
