Joker in the pack: A second ibis opens on Phuket in 2009

ibis Expands, Makes Thailand a Hub

Tuesday, October 12, 2010
IBIS, with two resorts on Phuket and five more around the country, is making Thailand its regional hub. Three more hotel are soon to be added: at Hua Hin, Chonburi and Krabi.

Mr Erwann Mahe, Executive General Manager - ibis Erawan Thailand, said ibis as a three-star brand with high-technology at its core could offer exceptional value and quality.

ibis is targetting people aged 20-40 with ''a dynamic brand.'' Frequent travellers, groups, families, teenagers and nature-lovers were their most sought guests.

He said ibis has 1704 rooms in Thailand now with 500 staff. Construction cost amounted to 1.5-1.6 million baht per room, he said.

''Every ibis hotel only has one restaurant and we undertake to serve a customer within 15 minutes,'' Mr Mahe said. Seventy percent of customers are Asians, he said.

The ibis innovation utilises dynamic pricing online and a centralised accounting system for all hotels to reduce costs and keep staff numbers low. Staff are trained to fulfill more than one role, and paid more for their skills and adaptability.

The ibis hotels on Phuket are in Patong and Kata.
